Award-winning Birmingham icon
Fort Dunlop is an architectural icon. This Birmingham landmark was transformed by Urban Splash into 300,000 sq ft of commercial space over seven floors - as well as an adjacent hotel.
Fort Dunlop's always been a talking point; from its heyday as the busy factory of Dunlop Tyres, to the time a 24-metre high picture of David Beckham's face adorned the facade, it's a building which has regularly made the headlines. Big and beautiful, it gave Urban Splash a brilliant fabric to work with and in 2006, we unveiled 300,000 sq ft of newly created, contemporary Grade A office space, retail and leisure spaces and a hotel to the world.
Standing on one of the most prominent and accessible sites in the country, adjacent to the M6 between junctions 5 and 6 of the motorway, Fort Dunlop is an ummissable structure. Working with architects shedkm, we applied some awesome designs here, making features of the best of the original building, whilst bringing in some beautiful contemporary design. Up top, we created a roof garden - one of the world's biggest living roofs - which occupiers now use for parties and networking events.
In 2014, we sold the building to the Tristan EPISO 3 fund; by that time it had notched up an incredible 18 awards, including the coveted British Council for Offices (BCO) Test of Time Award which it won in 2013.

shedkm
shedkm work in a first floor studio in Bold Street, Liverpool - above Rennie's Art Shop. The space is open, informal and busy. We all sit at refectory tables with IT equipment in a central pod. Visitors are welcome, indeed encouraged, to look around. We like to think of our studio as a living advertisement for our skills and professionalism.
Awards
To date we have won 400 awards for architecture, regeneration, marketing and enterprise.
