Just one home remains at Avro in Manchester

    03 August 2021

We’ve sold all but one of our homes at Avro, our latest transformation in Manchester where we’ve sensitively restored one of the city’s last untouched Victorian mills, turning it into 31 new homes, all packed with original features. Here, our sales colleague Toby tells us about the building’s appeal...

Avro’s been such a joy to work on. It’s classic Urban Splash; a beautiful but rundown former Victorian mill, rich in Grade II* Listed features such as striking original brickwork, overlooking the Rochdale Canal. It’s packed with Manchester history and was once home to the famous AV Roe aviation company and was the place in which warplanes were built. Famous artist LS Lowry was also the building’s rent collector.

Like many mills of its era, it fell into inevitable decline and until just a couple of years ago was completely unused – a great shame for a beautiful building sitting in such a great position in Manchester – straddling the Northern Quarter, Ancoats and New Islington that surround it outside.

Working with renowned Manchester architect Roger Stephenson, we fused the aesthetics of a spacious Manhattan loft with the original features, creating 31 homes – each exceeding 1,000 sq ft of living space. This summer we turned our attentions to the outside too, creating a 3,000 sq ft brand-new residents’ garden.

The appealing features of the building, as well as its location right opposite New Islington Marina, have made it a popular choice for many types of buyer; those downsizing and returning to the city from the suburbs, through to younger people keen on staying in an urban environment.

It means just one home now remains here – a truly unique chance for a buyer to grasp one of the last pieces of history in this building, and a home in one of Manchester’s last untouched mills.
