Making an Outstanding Contribution
With over 30 years’ regeneration experience under our belts, our places and projects have picked up various awards over the years. In a special announcement at the Architecture Today Test of Time Awards, we received the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award from the judges, which recognises our long-standing commitment to regeneration.
Chairman and co-founder of Urban Splash, Tom Bloxham MBE, shares his thoughts on the recent win below.
“It was a pleasure to receive the award, alongside my co-founder Jonathan Falkingham, dedicated to our longstanding commitment to regeneration.
“The accolade is testament to the work put in by our colleagues and collaborators over the last 30+ years which has seen us bring over 60 Urban Splash regeneration projects to life from as far south as Royal William Yard in Plymouth to as far north as Smith's Dock in North Shields and everything in between.”
Award-winning regeneration
“The judges spoke of our core values of flexibility, longevity and adaptability and how our projects have proved time and time again that responsible development can deliver critical acclaim and commercial success.
“It’s fantastic to be recognised by the panel and have the chance to reflect on all we’ve achieved in the last 30+ years. Many projects we’ve taken on, we’ve been told ‘it will never work’ but instead of being discouraged, it’s spurred us on to prove the naysayers wrong.
“But the work doesn’t stop here. We’re gearing up for a new era of Urban Splash neighbourhoods which we’re bringing to life across the country, using all we’ve learnt in the last 30+ years to propel our future development pipeline of 5,000 new homes and 600,000 sq ft of commercial space.”
Reimagining residential development
“Also on the night, we received an award in the Residential category for Timber Wharf. This is a particularly meaningful project for us, not just because it’s the building that houses our main offices in Manchester, but also because it was our first ever new-build development.
“The design was picked after an anonymous completion chaired by Lord Richard Rogers, allowing us to explore a new genre of building working alongside the winner Glenn Howells as we created something bold and new.
“When it was completed 20 years ago, Timber Wharf made a real impact on Castlefield, introducing a fresh aesthetic at the time. It’s a unique space that has since been loved by everyone who calls it home – whether that’s us, the other commercial occupiers, or the residents in the apartments above.
“The building has played a key role in the development of an area that is now a well-regarded part of town, where people live, work, and play. It’s an honour to receive this award in recognition of that.”
