Urban Splash Newsplash - January 2025
Welcome to our January 2025 edition of the Urban Splash Newsplash – your handy round-up of all the things Urban Splash
As we step into 2025, we’re filled with excitement about the opportunities ahead. This month’s Newsplash looks to what’s on the horizon for Urban Splash – from welcoming our first new residents to Port Loop in Birmingham, to ambitious citywide proposals for Swansea and our first neighbourhood in Milton Keynes – and many more projects across the UK. Read on to find out more
Mansion House at Port Loop in Birmingham
Working with Places for People, we’ll be welcoming our first residents to the Mansion House apartments at Port Loop in 2025. These beautiful new homes overlook the canal, the centrepiece of this dynamic waterside community.
Creating new places for Sheffield
We’ll take on another of Sheffield's listed structures with plans for cafés, shops, leisure facilities, and flexible workspace at Cole Brothers. And we’ll progress the fourth phase at the Grade II Listed Park Hill, delivering 125 apartments and public realm, with phase five also adding 105 homes and 2,000 sq ft commercial space.
Continuing our work at New Islington
Our long-term transformation of New Islington continues this year as we work through the final phases – including two new blocks of rental homes along the marina, adding to the vibrancy of this flourishing neighbourhood. We’re also on the hunt for a residential consultant to join our team in Manchester to help us market these homes too.
A new city vision for Swansea
In collaboration with Swansea Council, we’re working on the transformation of seven key sites across the city. Following the release of our City on the Beach sketchbook in December, we’ll start with a 47,964 sq ft public sector hub of shops, restaurants, and commercial office spaces.
Venturing into new places
We’re partnering with Glenbrook to create a modern garden city at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, featuring green spaces, high-quality homes, and workspaces. And we’re working with the National Trust to transform Orrest Head Farm, a nine-hectare site near Windermere Train Station, where the council is delivering new pedestrian routes, cycle connections, and transport upgrades.
Shaping the conversation
Our Urban Splash people will continue to contribute to industry discourse this year. Our Chairman and Tom Bloxham MBE will speak at Space UK, while Suzy Jones, Adam Willetts and David Warburton join Insider Media events in Manchester, Birmingham and Swansea.
Taking the conversation on tour
We’ll be at MIPIM in March with Tom Bloxham MBE, Guy Ackernley, Akeel Malik, Emma Gardiner, David Warburton, Ryan Leigh, Nicky Harries, Joe Woolley, and Suzie Scott all in Cannes. We’d love to hear from you if you’re attending too.
An ‘outstanding contribution’ to architecture
We ended 2024 on a high, receiving Architecture Today’s Outstanding Contribution Award, recognising our enduring commitment to regeneration. While this spring, Melville at Royal William Yard will receive recognition at the Civic Trust Awards.
