Urban Splash Newsplash - October 2022
Welcome to our October edition of Newsplash - a monthly round-up of all things Urban Splash, featuring new homes, scheme launches, commercial news and much more.
This month, our Regeneration Director, Mark Latham, discusses our vision for Park Hill with the Sheffield Star. There's news from our Commercial team, where we've let a further 28,000 sq ft of workspace across our portfolio. Down in Plymouth, we reflect on a royal legacy at Royal William Yard, as well as launching our brand new website for the waterfront destination. There's also some more awards news for our colleagues and neighbourhoods across the country. Read on to find out more.
Our vision for the future of Park Hill
Our colleague Mark Latham spoke with the Sheffield Star this month about plans for the next phase of works at Park Hill. With our latest phase of 195 homes – designed by Stirling Prize winning architects Mikhail Riches – now complete, we’re turning our attentions to a fourth phase comprising 106 homes and 29,000 sq ft of studios, workspace and community facilities for S1 Artspace.
28,000 sq ft of new lettings in our commercial portfolio
We enjoyed an active summer in our commercial portfolio – completing deals on 28,000 sq ft of space in Urban Splash neighbourhoods around the country. Among the deals are the first completions at Richmond Street in Manchester, more than 13,000 sq ft of space at Royal William Yard and further deals at Boat Shed in Salford Quays. Looking for office, retail or leisure space? Take a look at what's available here, and read about the great places we're creating – all thanks to our customers.
Reflecting on a legacy at Royal William Yard
We joined the nation in reflecting on the life of Queen Elizabeth II last month, including taking friends and partners in Plymouth on tours of Royal William Yard. The Yard is steeped in royal heritage, with the late Queen, new king and Queen Victoria all having visited the area. The event gave colleagues and guests a chance to reflect on the Yard’s history while also learning about its future – including news of more businesses and a new gym taking space at the site.
Urban Splash accounts show progress in a difficult year
We’ve released our latest annual results for Urban Splash Group Holdings Limited, showing a 69% increase in turnover – up to £66.5m from £39.4m in the prior reporting period, while profit before tax increased from £4.2m to £8.5m. The accounts also show a continued strong performance for the Urban Splash commercial portfolio. With assets revalued at £97.1m – an increase of 48%.
Four awards – and more nominations too!
We won four major industry awards this month, recognising our work creating new places to live, work and play. New Islington in Manchester and Park Hill in Sheffield both won British Homes Awards – with us and our partners Places for People also winning the ceremony's award for excellence. Park Hill also won an Inside Housing Development Award. The news comes in a month that also saw our colleague Akeel Malik listed on the Estates Gazette Rising Star Awards; we were nominated for Developer of the Year in the South West Business Insider Awards; Park Hill was nominated as a finalist in the Architects’ Journal Architecture Awards, and the Sheffield Design Awards; Lister Mills was nominated for an Architecture Today Award and we’ve been shortlisted at this year’s Shark Awards too.
