A new restaurant amidst a wave of activity at Royal William Yard
The restaurant letting is to boutique operator Town Mill Bakery. Their unique café and restaurant concept, which prides itself on freshly produced bread and dough based meals throughout the day, will be housed in an 2,196 sq ft unit in the Brewhouse building overlooking the Yard’s marina.
Clive Cobb of Town Mill Bakery said: “Just as Urban Splash has a unique offering here at Royal William Yard, we too have a distinct identity so it was imperative that the location of our third branch was somewhere which suited our brand. Royal William Yard undoubtedly gives us that, the setting will be perfect for our customers and we’re delighted to be moving into such a thriving commercial hub.”
Town Mill Bakery will be the fourth restaurant to open at Royal William Yard after River Cottage Canteen Deli, the recently opened Italian Prezzo restaurant and the Seco Lounge which launched in spring last year and has since had to expand its operations due to unprecedented demand from visitors to Royal William Yard.
Emily Handslip of Urban Splash said: “We are thrilled to announce the arrival of another quality food offering at Royal William Yard and are relishing the prospect of rolling out the Town Mill concept here, particularly as they have such a unique presence which will bring a new dimension to the scheme. When they and River Cottage open their doors later this year the Yard will be unrivalled in its food offering and unique setting, its incredibly exciting for us, our occupiers, our residents and everyone else involved.”
This week will also see the British Art Show take up residence in the scheme’s Slaughterhouse and Mills Bakery building for the durations of their exhibitions. As well as the continuation of the Americas Cup, this Friday will also see the launch of the ‘Yard Exchange’ market, something which we hope will attract other seasonal markets to the scheme. Created by local art curator Paula Orrell, The Yard Exchange will showcase everything from handmade jewellery to funky housewares and from clothing to organic cupcakes, creating a new convergence spot for local talent and inspired designer, 20 of whom will exhibit over the weekend.
The Yard will also play host this week to a coming together of Tamar Valley artists for a ‘Drawn to the Valley’ exhibition, It will be held from 16th September and run for two weeks.
Royal William Yard was acquired by Urban Splash as a semi derelict former Ministry of Defence Yard in 2001. Since then 216 homes have been created and 62,000 sq ft of commercial space, which is now home to the high calibre restaurants above, the University of Plymouth, Hoare Lea and Bluestone 360.
Concluded Emily Handslip: “The redevelopment of Royal William Yard is not just for occupiers and residents but for the City as a whole. These events are held to welcome everyone from the local area onto the site and to get involved in a historical part of Plymouth which is fast becoming a modern hub of activity.”
Just two commercial units now remain in the Brewhouse building, with additional units totaling upto 5,000 sq ft at the New Cooperage building which is currently undergoing redevelopment by Urban Splash.
