Customer profiles - SevenThreeOne, Boat Shed
An extraordinary organisation requires an extraordinary headquarters and Boat Shed at Salford Quays has proved just that for founders of SevenThreeOne, sisters Vanice and Venessa Scott. Here, Venessa shares what makes Boat Shed so special and why it was the undisputed first choice for their inspirational non profit business to settle in.
It’s a full circle moment to be here at Boat Shed as I’ve been an advocate and admirer of the company for many years. I studied Design and spent subsequent years lecturing on the subject following the evolution of Urban Splash for the entirety of my career - I often used them as a case study for my students as an inspiring example of pioneering design! So, it really was a natural and easy choice for us to anchor our business here, it offers the centrality we need as well as the ability to evolve which is a huge part of our future plans.
No one does it like Urban Splash
SevenThreeOne is a non profit organisation and we’re passionate about furthering the education and skills of serving prisoners, returning citizens and disengaged young people around the country meaning we regularly have to travel, it's why we gravitated towards a base that offers us a lovely sanctuary as well as all the facilities we need on our doorstep. Boat Shed is that place and we love coming here - especially as it’s near to where we live so we can walk or cycle which is really important to us as we try and live as sustainably as possible.
I could wax lyrical about the facilities here and they really are incredible - it’s a cool cool place, you really can’t underestimate how useful it is having a Post Office on site and a mini high-street! But aside from the amenities, the place has real soul and that’s very much down to Lindsay, the Boat Shed Host, who has created a really strong sense of community here. Nothing is too much trouble and she’s responsive and reactive and a fantastic person. It’s a great balance of calm and tranquility, but with access to the city - we love watching the trams go through, you feel like you’re part of the city landscape whilst also having the water views and calmness the location offers, it’s a lovely balance.
We both love our jobs so it’s fundamental that we love where we work too, it’s all consuming and hard work but we’re driven by doing good for the community embedded by our strong Christian roots. We’ve plans to grow and evolve and reach all members of the community through our work so it makes 100% sense to be here. We have plans for homeless shelters and are trying to reach more people with plans for a community centre so we can create hope and opportunity for all.
Meant to be
We feel a legacy of connection with Urban Splash having respected their work for years, and when we saw our space - a mix of contemporary and industrial with yellow accents we couldn’t believe it, as it perfectly matched our brand colours - we didn’t even need to decorate! It was clearly meant to be!
