Countdown to Park Hill opening starting prices and launch date for new homes announced
The 50-year-old Grade II* Listed building has been given a new lease of life by Urban Splash, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, Great Places Housing Group, English Heritage and the Homes and Communities Agency.
The competitive prices will start from £90,000 for a one bed apartment with the marketing suite and show homes opening on Saturday 8 October 2011. The spacious one, two and three bedroom duplex apartments are all dual aspect with south facing living rooms and floor to ceiling glazing. A new glass lift has now been installed for residents and visitors to take full advantage of the spectacular views of Sheffield. The starting price is due to be unveiled to the city on a giant banner on the side of the first phase of Park Hill this week.
There is also 40,000 sq ft of commercial space available for offices, shops, bars, restaurants and other uses ranging from smaller studios to larger spaces. These units feature large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city and newly landscaped park areas surrounding the first phase.
Architects Hawkins\Brown working with Studio Egret West have revitalised the exteriors with colourful anodised aluminium panels replicating the coloured brick banding of the original exterior and emphasising the modular structure. The landscaping around the site, designed by Grant Associates, provides spacious courtyard and garden areas for residents and others to relax and enjoy.
Four unique show homes will open to the public from the 8 October when the marketing suite will also be opening for reservations and enquiries. This first phase features 78 one, two and three bed apartments, 26 of which are for affordable rent managed by Great Places Housing Group let in partnership with Sheffield City Council.
The redevelopment of Park Hill, Sheffield, has also been short-listed for a prestigious World Architecture Festival award – the only UK project to receive the honour in the Residential Future Project category.
Ivor Smith, one of the original architects recently took a tour of the redevelopment to see the progress. He said: “This scheme gives real meaning to the word “regeneration”; it represents a new beginning, a new vitality. I sense in those who have been involved the same enthusiasm and excitement that Jack Lynn and I enjoyed half a century ago. It will be a great place to live!”
