Midland Hotel picks up two more awards
Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash, working with its architects Union North, has received two more prestigious accolades.
The art deco building, which was redeveloped by Urban Splash and reopened as a boutique hotel in 2008, received a Civic Trust Award, an accolade handed to projects that make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment. The building also received a Special Award for Restoration.
Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE said:“This is fantastic news. The Midland Hotel was an exciting yet challenging project for Urban Splash and our ultimate goal was to restore one of the UK's finest buildings and create a modern, luxury hotel which would attract new audiences to Morecambe. This award is testament to our efforts.”
The awards were presented at a ceremony in Liverpool and come hot on the heels of the RIBA Crown Estate Conservation Award, which was presented to the Midland late last year. It takes the Urban Splash awards tally to 291.
