    Press release - 10 March 2021

New urban street furniture and play pieces installed on Park Hill exhibition plinths

    10 March 2021

The award winning redevelopment and joint venture between Urban Splash and Places for People have collaborated with Create Partnerships to install new urban street furniture and play pieces at Park Hill. Installed on the sculpture plinths in the landscaped area of Phase 1 they provide additional seating for the residents, local community and visitors, and some animal sculptures that children are welcome to clamber over.

Create Partnerships is a Sheffield based independent collective that is owned by local serial entrepreneur, Paul Collings and provides play areas, street furniture, street lighting, sports facilities and early years outdoor learning settings for the public realm. The five pieces at Park Hill includes 2 benches, a model bear, a wooden snail and a large concrete stone.

Paul Collings, Director of Create Partnerships said: “We are delighted to partner with Urban Splash and Places for People with their inspirational redevelopment of the iconic Park Hill flats, and to exhibit some of our sculptural play and urban furniture elements on their outdoor plinths for the residents to enjoy.”

Greg Ball on behalf of the joint venture said: “The sculpture plinths are versatile outdoor exhibition spaces and we are really pleased that our first use of them is with Create Partnerships. As well as being recognised as an urban regeneration developer we are also known for our support for the arts and that we recognise that art plays an integral part in creating environments that build communities. In the few days since these pieces have appeared on the plinths it has been great to see them being so well used and the Richter snail and bear are a magnet for young children as well as providing another play area for those who attend the nursery.”

Stone seating, part of the installation at Park Hill in Sheffield

    Family by moveART

The playing bench is for a whole family designed to allow movement and relaxation in the same space. The integrated wooden slides provide smaller children with a great opportunity to move and play in the immediate vicinity of the parents, who can relax – either sitting or lying – on the bench. All objects originate from a single form – the so-called double helix, the form of the DNA strands of all living things. They thus have an energising and harmonising effect on people and the environment.

ZADIG is a street furniture steel bench suitable for external and internal environments. It was made in Italy and part of the LAB23 collection that is characterised by a modern style and use of quality materials.

    Stone seating – Concrete Rudolph

    Designed by Eva Rudolph

Inspired by nature, the Stone seating is typical of Concrete Rudolph’s style – manufacturing majestic inspiring pieces that are built to last. Taking on the familiar shape of the pebble the seating invites users to sit down, relax and enjoy quality-time and their surroundings.

    Snail – Richter Spielgerate

The friendly snail can be used as comfort table seats or just to hold onto lovingly. Due to its emotional appeal it also provides identifying features that help children to develop a connection to the play area.

    Bear - Richter Spielgerate

The gentle nature of the bear and the quiet expression creates an atmosphere of peace which is aimed to initiate a friendly encounter with the animals. The bear is made of stone which is ideal to stroke, touch and feel or be incorporated into roleplay games.

The installations will remain in place and maybe changed from time to time replaced with other inspiring street furniture - watch this space!
