There's a new show home at Smith's Dock in North Shields
Places for People and Urban Splash, the joint venture partnership redeveloping Smith’s Dock in North Shields, have announced the completion of a ‘Fab’ new show house at the scheme – with doors to the new property opening this weekend.
Located on The Plateau area of the development – an elevated plot overlooking the River Tyne – the two bedroom show house is one of the few remaining Fab Houses remaining on sale at the scheme – all 10 of which have been designed by North East architect and Channel 4 presenter George Clarke.
Guy Ackernley is director of residential sales at Urban Splash and explains: “I’m delighted we can now unveil this second show house at Smith’s Dock, another inspirational concept property which shows our customers how their dream home here can look.”
Drawing on a “high street” theme, the new show house features pieces by Habitat, Made.com, Ikea and Next and has been designed by the marketing team behind the development. It will be open from Thursdays to Mondays, 11am to 6pm, for any buyers wanting to look around the home’s ground floor, open plan living spaces and the two bedrooms upstairs.
Visiting buyers will also be able to find out more about Help to Buy, a Government-backed loan which assists buyers up to 20% of the cost of Fab House– meaning each eligible customer will need just 5% cash deposit and a 75% mortgage to make up the cost of their home. Buyers won’t be charged loan fees on the 20% loan for the first five years either.
The Fab Houses are modular in their form, meaning that they’re created offsite in the Urban Splash House factory in the East Midlands before being transported to North Shields and assembled on site. Bright and spacious, the living areas are maximised thanks to pared-back living spaces, making for exposed timber staircases and ceilings – giving each house height. Hailed by their designer George Clarke as “proper family homes” – the Fab Houses are spacious, well planned and will encourage family living. Reflecting on them George added: “The plans for the whole area make for a wonderful community. Smith’s Dock is an important historic site and the development is the epitome of true regeneration – with diverse home designs, sensitively designed public spaces and the reopening of the stunning waterfront. When complete, Smith’s Dock is going to be a great neighbourhood to live in and I’m proud that my Fab House design is part of it.”
Upon completion, Smith’s Dock will comprise community amenities, green spaces, and a total of 800 homes; the first 124 of which are either completed or on site – including the 80 waterfront Smokehouse apartments which will complete in 2019. The site is surrounded by some of North Tynside’s best performing schools – including the OFSTED Outstanding Waterville Primary School which is just 0.2 miles away – while St Cuthbert’s and Spring Gardens – both rated as OFSTED Good – are also close by. There’s great connectivity, with the North Shields Metro stop and North Shields Ferry Terminal just minutes away.
