Urban Splash hosts public consultation in Swansea
Award winning regeneration company Urban Splash will host a public consultation in Swansea this summer, allowing local people to give their views on newly-released proposals for a part of the Swansea Central masterplan.
The event will show in-depth designs for an area known as Block B, comprising a mixed-use public sector hub building which will include shops, restaurants and cafes at ground floor level, and commercial office spaces on the upper floors.
Speaking of the plans, Urban Splash development director David Warburton said: “We look forward to working with the local community. Urban Splash will display the designs from 13th to 15th August, with a drop-in public consultation hosted at at the former Cranes Music Shop, 9-11 St David’s Place, Swansea, SA1 3LG, and local residents can also provide their feedback via an online portal during the consultation dates.
The company has 30 years of experience in regeneration and is helping transform seven sites across the city in total; David continued: “For the past three decades, Urban Splash has been dedicated to long-term regeneration, collaborating closely with local authorities and partners to deliver sustainable visions for disused and unloved spaces.
“Our work focuses on the sensitive and careful restoration of buildings and brownfield sites and we’re thrilled to bring that expertise to Swansea.”
The announcement follows Urban Splash's appointment as the preferred developer by Swansea Council.
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “Swansea city centre needs more people working and living there to support existing traders and employment, create new jobs and encourage more shops and other businesses to open in future.
“The proposed public sector hub will help meet that need because of the amount of extra workers who’ll be spending their money in the city centre’s restaurants, shops, cafes and other businesses.
“Subject to consultation feedback and planning approval, its construction would form part of the next phase of the city centre’s £1bn transformation, following-on from schemes like Swansea Arena, the restoration of the Palace Theatre and the new office development for private sector tenants which is taking shape at 71/72 The Kingsway.
“The scheme is part of our commitment to regenerate Swansea city centre and create a leading destination for visiting, enjoying, working, living and studying.”
Upon completion of the consultation, Urban Splash will gather local feedback, before then submitting a Reserved Matters planning application to the Council in September, setting out the detailed design of the building and its immediate setting.
